Read Issue No. 1: Wild

About This Issue

The rawness of existence is seldom addressed in the societal narrative; this is especially true of marginalized individuals. We are told we are too much, often from the very beginning. There is no room for our voices, our stories are too “intense,” and we are not allowed to metabolize and heal from the trauma of being victimized by our communities. Consequently, we are taught to stifle all of the qualities that make us human in order to get the care we need. We aren’t given the space to be the wild, growing, loud people we sometimes need to be.

Maw’s first issue, “Wild,” is for poets of color, disabled, and/or queer poets to reclaim that space to simply go wild. This is for you, this is for them, this is for us. This issue is about the community we find in being our wild selves.
